Get Your Service On for Earth Day

Join CCV students, faculty and staff from around the state in rolling up sleeves, planting trees, and engaging in teamwork and camaraderie.  Join us on Saturday, April 28th, as we partner with the White River Partnership as "official tree planters."  Together, we will honor Earth Day by planting trees in Hartford along the banks of the White River.  As you know, Hartford is a town especially hard hit by Irene and one with years of recovery ahead.

You will have the opportunity to meet new friends, network, help the environment and fellow Vermonters all while having fun planting trees – a great way to spend a Saturday!

When: Saturday, April 28, 2012
           10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Where: We will meet at CCV-Upper Valley and disperse from there.

If you are interested in volunteering, contact Linda Schlott to sign-up for the event.

If you have ever volunteered, we'd love to hear your story.  Tell us - what was the experience like for you?

Montreal in May

Well, we can't bring you Paris in spring, but we can offer Montreal in May.

Did you know that Montreal is the second largest French speaking city in the world?  I didn't until just recently.  I also just recently learned that Montreal is known for its cafes, European flair, music festivals, culture and outstanding restaurants. And guess what - CCV is taking a trip to Montreal.

Join us as we take the 2 hour trek to Montreal from CCV-Winooski on Friday, May 4 and return Saturday night.  The Montreal trip will be a great opportunity to meet CCV students from around the state, forge new friendships, and cross the border to steep yourself in another culture for a couple days.

There is limited space available, and students will be enrolled on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Please sign-up no later than April 17, 2012.  Visit CCV Study Abroad on the web to learn more.

Say Sayonara to Semester Stress

Studies have shown that weeks three, five, 10 and 15 of a semester are traditionally weeks when college students are really feeling the stress.  Think about it - these are the weeks that there are usually tests, papers, projects, midterms and finals.  Eee-gads!

We know that stress can be counterproductive, so if you are feeling stressed about your school-work-life-family balance (or lack thereof) we suggest you get some good, whole-belly laughter going.  Yes - that's right.  Laugh. Studies have shown laughter is an effective stress buster, so call a funny friend, get goofy with your kids or rent a witty comedy.  To get your laughter started, we thought we'd bring you the Laughing Yogi.  He's fantastic, so go ahead and laugh with our yogi guy.  It's good for you - really!

Spend a Semester in Santa Fe

Castleton's Semester in Santa Fe provides a hands-on, multicultural experience in a unique and fascinating region of the United States.  Few cities within the U.S. borders offer such a rich opportunity for the study of ancient and contemporary Native American cultures, the arts, anthropology, and the natural environment.

The southwest is home to a great diversity of cultures including American Indian cultures such as Navajo, Pueblo, Hopi, as well as a thriving Hispanic tradition and a uniquely Western-Anglo-American way of life.  While English is the primary language, Spanish and several tribal languages are in common use.  Enriching this unique wealth of cultural opportunity is a contemporary explosion in the fine arts and recreational opportunities such as hiking, biking and rafting.
