Learning Centers

Learn to Love (Or At Last Deeply Appreciate) the Learning Center

Each CCV academic center offers students a space to get academic help, increase success, build study skills, meet incredible students and staff and have fun while learning.  What is this magical place? The Learning Center.

Top 10 Reasons to Use the Learning Center
  • Get support.  Learning Center tutors and faculty are waiting to help you develop skills for success in your studies.
  •   Get help with math, reading, writing, research, computers and other various subjects.
  • Build your confidence. Learning skills and tools for how to complete your assignments successfully will boost your confidence in completing homework on your own.
  • Meet fantastic people and make learning fun.  Everyone (students, tutors and faculty) is here to learn together and support each other.  Learning Center peer tutors’ assistance is based on academic and practical experience; but most of all, the peer tutors really want to help other students.  They are energized by being of assistance.
  • Get the most out of your classes.  Tutors can help students develop study skills and learning strategies that work for them.
  • Increase your success. While we can’t promise your grades will improve, many students who use the Learning Center regularly tell tutors that they have improved their grades as a result.
  • Have a focused place to study.  Many students come to the Learning Center to study, either alone or with fellow students, and then find they can ask for help when they have a question or get stuck.
  • Understand what your teacher is talking about.  Learning Center staff can help you understand complex concepts and their applications and can help you communicate your needs to your instructors.
  • Demystify learning. Get step-by-step support with understanding the rules of grammar, finding your way around the Hartness online library, and using Microsoft Office.
  • Reduce Anxiety.  Learn strategies to reduce math and testing anxiety and decrease stress in your studies.
To fully utilize the Learning Center, you should visit regularly to increase your skills and study regularly – not just when you need help editing or you need to print a paper.  You might be surprised to learn that if you let your instructor know you are working with Learning Center staff, you can coordinate Learning Center activities with class curriculum and the teacher.  Your instructor will see you are making a genuine effort and will likely be impressed with your initiative.  And hey, every little bit helps, right!
